GREAT FALLS — Jim “Sarge” Sargent has accepted a position with the Argos. Sarge will be the new Sports Information Director (SID) at the University of Providence.

Sarge comes to the University of Providence after 31 years in radio. The past five years he was the Sports and News Director at STARadio. Prior to STARadio, he worked with other radio stations throughout the state. As the Ag and Sports director at STARadio, he enjoyed working with kids and keeping Montana informed on Ag and Sports information and stories. Sarge is also very active in community affairs, in Great Falls and the surrounding areas.

“We are extremely excited for ‘Sarge’ to be involved with Argos Athletics,” said Dave Gantt, Providence VP for Athletics. “It is very flattering that our coaches and staff have created a culture where additional talent wants to have a presence. His credibility and ambassadorship will be invaluable to Argos Athletics, and I really look forward to seeing what we can create with his help.”

Sarge moved into his new office on Monday and is preparing to promote the activities for the University of Providence. Sarge said he’s excited to take on the new roll and work with the Argos.

“I’ve always enjoyed being involved in all aspects of sports and when this opportunity came about, I quickly inquired about the position,” he said. “I look forward to the new adventure and I’m excited to work with our local media in promoting all athletic events at UP.”

Some of the highlights of Sarge’s radio career are interviewing Hillary Clinton and meeting President Obama, in addition to broadcasting on the sidelines at Texas A&M stadium when the MSU Bobcats played the Aggies. He has received several awards for sports broadcasting as well as the FFA and 4-H Foundations in support of the Future of Agriculture. Most recently, Sarge was recognized by Congressman Greg Gianforte as the “Spirit of Montana” winner and Montana Special Olympics as “Media Personality of the Year.”

“I’m really lucky to have a great team of support when I broadcast or am involved in community events,” he added. “I am ready to embrace being a part of the University of Providence team as the Sports Information Director.”
