Tres Tinkle scores 1,500th career point at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Tres Tinkle continues to add his name to the Oregon State record books.

The former Missoula Hellgate High School star scored his 1,500th career point over the weekend, becoming the eighth player in Oregon State history to hit the threshold. Tinkle had 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting as the Beavers defeated rival Oregon 72-57 to earn the series sweep. It’s OSU’s first season sweep in the series since 2010.

Tinkle, who is among the top 10 candidates for the 2019 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, is averaging 20.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He leads Oregon State in all four of those categories and is the only player in the Pac-12 to rank in the top 10 of the league in each of those categories. Tinkle also leads the Beavers in made field goals (161) and free throws (103).

Tinkle has scored in double figures in 58 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in program history. Prior to play at Oregon State, Tinkle was a two-time Montana boys basketball Gatorade player of the year.

Oregon State is 16-8 overall this season and 8-4 in the Pac-12 heading into a weekend road trip at UCLA and USC. The Beavers, who defeated UCLA 79-66 on Jan. 13, haven’t swept the Bruins in a season since 1987-88.
